{"id":342,"date":"2014-06-24T19:00:57","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T18:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sebcharrot.com\/blog\/?p=342"},"modified":"2014-06-24T19:00:57","modified_gmt":"2014-06-24T18:00:57","slug":"google-glass-eye-love-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sebcharrot.com\/blog\/google-glass-eye-love-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Glass, Eye Love You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having done a bit of research on what apps people are starting to develop for Google Glass, I stumbled on word of a recent <a title=\"Glass Hackahon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg22229634.200-google-glass-hackathon-spawns-bizarre-notouch-apps.html#.U6ma8PldV8F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glass\u00a0Hackathon<\/a> where, among other things, an app was built to\u00a0measure attraction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It uses an eye tracker, mounted on the Glass frame, to measure the pupil dilation of the wearer. The idea is to measure someone&#8217;s arousal, giving an instant measure of how attracted they are to the person they are looking at.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Initially I misread this and thought it was built to track pupil dilation<em> in someone else&#8217;s<\/em> eyes, not the wearer&#8217;s. The thought of the proximity you&#8217;d have to have between\u00a0your face and that of the person you&#8217;re analysing amused me greatly.<\/p>\n<p>It did remind me of the sort of advice you see bandied around on the internet &#8211; &#8220;Dude if her pupils are dilating, she&#8217;s totally into you&#8221;. Dude, if you&#8217;re staring into each other&#8217;s eyes\u00a0close enough to observe the dilation of\u00a0her\u00a0pupils,\u00a0she&#8217;s probably into you.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/45.77.89.248\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140624_172401.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-346\" src=\"http:\/\/45.77.89.248\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140624_172401-1024x700.jpg\" alt=\"Attraction\" width=\"648\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, on a more serious note, tracking the wearer&#8217;s pupil dilation has already been <a title=\"patented by Google\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/google-glasses-eye-tracking-glass-patent-may-introduce-pay-gaze-advertising-1393055\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">patented by Google<\/a>, with some people suggest it could be used to gauge your emotional response to advertising.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having done a bit of research on what apps people are starting to develop for Google Glass, I stumbled on word of a recent Glass\u00a0Hackathon where, among other things, an app was built to\u00a0measure attraction: It uses an eye tracker, mounted on the Glass frame, to measure the pupil dilation of the wearer.
